WiscAMP Small Grants
Purpose of Grants:
The purpose of the Small Grants Program is to allow participating institutions to submit proposals that will support their efforts in increasing the number of baccalaureate degrees awarded to underrepresented minorities in STEM fields. Institutions should address obstacles and barriers identified at their institution and identify how their proposal will support the WiscAMP effort. WiscAMP addresses retention and persistence of underrepresented minorities in STEM disciplines by expanding and improving on successful models already in place and fostering and sustaining an alliance among partner institutions.
Eligibility:
WiscAMP member institutions are eligible to apply. Priority will be given to institutions working with other member institutions or to proposals working to enhance cooperation among institutions.
Funds:
Funds are flexible, but will range from $5,000 to $25,000 and institutions can apply independently or in partnership with other member institutions. Institutions should include documentation of their commitment to the proposal (this criteria is flexible and can include faculty release time or other in-kind contributions).
Due Dates:
- Fall: November 9, 2012
- Spring: March 22, 2013
How to apply for a WiscAMP Small Grant:
Proposal should include the attached cover sheet and budget form (with justification) and a narrative (between 1 – 3 pages) describing the following:
- Proposed Activity
- Description of Activity
- Goals of the Project
- Justification (a brief description of how activity or project will forward WiscAMP goals)
- Institutional Impact (brief description of how project leverages the institution's existing STEM diversity efforts or fits in with the institution's strategy to increase diversity in STEM)
- Assessment (brief description of how the impact of the project or activity will be assessed)
Please email application to Gail Coover at gcoover@engr.wisc.edu.
Representatives from the WiscAMP Regional Working Groups will use the following criteria to review proposals:
- Will the activities proposed move WiscAMP towards its goal of doubling the number of baccalaureate degrees awarded to underrepresented students in STEM fields?
- Will the activities proposed move WiscAMP towards its goal of building an alliance between institutions?
- What is the potential impact in terms of the numbers of students affected?
- What is the potential return on investment of the funding requested in the grant?
- What is the potential return on investment of the funding requested in the grant?
- What is the potential for sustaining and maintaining activities proposed in the grant?
